Liber

Liber, or Liberty

A fundamental of Freemasonry is liberty of thought, speech, and action, within the bounds of civil, political, and conscientious law, without license. The Eagle, in the Rose Croix Degree, symbolizes this tenet. The word Liber is also the name of the inner rind of the bark of a tree formally used as material for writing; hence it signifies "book," and for the "tree of knowledge" we have the "book of wisdom," and for the "tree of " we have the "book of life." — ( Leviticus 25:10 - Luke 4:18 - John 8:32,36 - Romans 8:21 )
