Golden Spur

A symbol of medieval knighthood and a theme of the Vatican and Austrian-Hungarian Orders of the Golden Spur (1539 and 1918). To signify that a knight must be as swift to follow God's commandments as the pricked charger, gold spurs were placed over the heels of the initiate during the ceremony or dubbing into knighthood.
